Veterinary Technology Program Receives Full Accreditation

Coastal Alabama Community College’s Veterinary Technology Program has been awarded continued full accreditation by the American Veterinarian Medical Association (AVMA) Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities. This is the third consecutive accreditation renewal for the program, which is part of the college’s Nursing and Allied Health Division.

“This is a huge milestone for the Vet Tech program, and I could not be more proud of the dedication of our faculty, staff, and students,” said Dr. Tiffany Scarborough, Dean of Nursing and Allied Health. “It is a momentous event when we receive that final affirmation, and it confirms that our programs are committed to preparing students to meet the demands of a truly evolving workforce.”

In February, AVMA’s committee visited various campuses and spoke with faculty, staff and students as part of its evaluation. After a two-day visit, it was determined the Vet Tech program had no significant deficiencies, which led to the renewal of full accreditation, which is in effect until 2031.

A direct pathway to the workplace, the program can accept as many as 24 students with each cohort, and graduates are then eligible to take the Veterinary Technician National Examination en route to becoming licensed. Faculty members are regularly given access to professional development opportunities to continue strengthening what’s offered.

“I’m incredibly proud of our faculty and staff,” Scarborough said. “They've done an outstanding job ensuring they deliver a high-quality curriculum and operate at an exceptional standard.”

Coastal Alabama offers Veterinary Technology and other pathways within Nursing and Allied Health, which include Dental Assisting, Emergency Medical Services, Surgical Technology, Medical Assistant Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Respiratory Therapy and Nursing, which is up for renewal of its accreditation in the fall.
